Here we have two saxophone masters questioning space through sound and movement, and working in the most inspirational place.
"Locus"
Puget-ville is a small village in the south France countryside, among vineyards and woods. It's also the place where Barre Phillips spent the most part of his life.
And It's the place where the Cepi organization led by him and some brave comrades was born and organized lot of meetings on the topic of mutlidisciplinary improvisation.
Torto Editions has a strong bondage with this incredible reality, as it's proved with the Cepi Nomads record in its catalogue.

« L’esprit du lieu ». "Quelle locution pourrait mieux rapporter ici ce qu’est Sainte-Philomène et son cimetière de pierres ? Ici, il nous imprègne dès l’arrivée, rentre dans les corps et transforme la musique. Ce lieu est musique. Il suffit de tendre l’oreille. Nous avons essayé.
La traversée nous a permis de jouer avec des endroits multiples, comme un voyage à travers une partition spatiale. Prendre l’espace et faire corps avec lui.

Out In the Open est un jeu matinal, une promenade solitaire dans la forêt. Chacun de notre côté, mais réunis par une forte connexion mentale, nous avons joué des séquences simultanées qui sont ici réunies.
Promised Land prolonge cette énergie, réunis à l’intérieur de la chapelle Sainte-Philomène et son acoustique si particulière.
Peter’s Cellar explore d’autres espaces, plus bas dans la cave vinicole de Puget-Ville. Des captations successives à l’intérieur de petites cuves métalliques (chacun la nôtre avec Rust Inside), puis réunis dans une cuve composite (49 Cubic Meters). La journée s’est achevée par un face à face dans le vaste cellier (Peter’s Cellar).
Nous avons décidé de garder la chronologie originale de cette longue journée pour y retrouver la cohérence des énergies développées. Ecouter ces espaces, les faire sonner en réponse – forêt, pierre, métal, composite, béton – et se laisser porter par cette première rencontre."
